Kolding Stadsarkiv is the city's historical archive, preserving and sharing the stories that shape Kolding’s identity. As a cultural hub, it connects the past with the present, offering a space for discovery and engagement.
The Challenge
Kolding Stadsarkiv’s motto, “Everyone is a part of history,” was often overlooked, with many viewing it as just an old archive. During my internship (2023), we aimed to change this perception and increase the archive's visibility in Kolding’s cultural scene by creating an outdoor installation.
The Solution
We developed a light installation for the Kolding Light Festival 2023 that successfully attracted visitors. This led to our official participation in 2024, where we expanded the project into a larger, immersive experience.
Motion Design and Projection Mapping were used to showcase fragments of Aksel Olsen's life—a notable botanist whose extensive collection is at the archive. Collaborating with a sound design student, we created a multi-sensory experience blending history with contemporary storytelling.
This project helped reestablish Kolding Stadsarkiv as a dynamic space focused on creating history, not just preserving it.
